Coming to the aid of residents consequent upon the hardships caused by shortage of new Naira bills and fuel scarcity, the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has kick-started the distribution of palliatives to the citizenry.

Recall, Theliberationnews reported that the state government made the promise last week when it announced that plans have been put in place to ameliorate the sufferings of Lagosians especially the less privileged and civil servants.

Speaking at the launching of the distribution exercise, Governor Sanwo-Olu who was represented by his Deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat; gave out palliatives to the teeming recipients on Tuesday at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium, Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja. He explained that the distribution is a continuous exercise as the government will be reaching out to religious centers, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), and other already charted distribution channels across the state.

Sanwo-Olu explained that the impetus for the palliative is to cushion the harrowing hardship caused by the seemingly unabated fuel and Naira bills scarcity.

He simply made it known that “we are doing this to alleviate the pains and sufferings of Lagosians.

“What is inside the boxes are different items for the consumption of the vulnerable society”

The state Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA), Hon. (Mrs) Cecelia Dada, in her speech stated that Lagos State Government has put together the palliatives for Lagosians by distributing food to the vulnerable in the society.

Dada stressed that the state government is mindful of the welfare of its people and that the challenges faced by citizens are due to the Naira swap and difficulty in accessing money.
