… Commissioner for Information Confirms Arrest Of Gang Leader

In the wake of the attack on his convoy on Sunday, Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has called for calm and tranquility in the state.

The attack on the governor which left no fewer than two vehicles destroyed, as gathered by Theliberationnews happened on his way to the Government House.

Tambuwal who doubles as the director-general of the Atiku Campaign Organisation confirmed to newsmen that the incident happened around the campaign office of Senator Aliyu Wamakko.

Among those who were said to have escaped the stones thrown at the Tambuwal convoy were the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidates of Sokoto and Kebbi states: Malam Saidu Umar (Mallam Ubandoman Sokoto) and Gen. Aminu Bande (rtd), and the deputy governorship candidate of Sokoto State, Hon. Sagir Bafarawa among others.

Reacting to the development on Monday, Governor Tambuwal said:

“On our way near the campaign office of Senator Aliyu Wamakko, hoodlums attacked my convoy on the way to the Government House.

“The matter is being investigated by the security agencies. Some arrests have been made. Rest assured that the law will take its course. I appeal for peace in the state. We cannot afford to toy with the fragile peace that we enjoy in Sokoto. I therefore enjoin all political leaders to eschew violence and to advice and counsel their followers and supporters to go out and campaign peacefully and look for votes and not perpetrate violence.,” the governor stated.

The state Commissioner for Information, Hon. Aki,bu Dalhatu, at a different press conference said the leader of the gang who stoned Governor Tambuwal, identified as Abu Mai Adda, and who had been on the watchlist of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in the last three months for allegedly attacking their personnel, was one of those apprehended.”
