The former Director General of Labour Party Presidential Campaign, Dr. Doyin Okupe has reacted to his arrest by the Department of State Security(DSS) on Thursday.
Okupe who was arrested at the terminal 1 of the Muritala Muhammed International Airport by DSS at the behest of the Economic Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) claimed that he has since been released by the anti-graft agency.
In a tweet on his Twitter handle, Okupe wrote: “I was arrested & detained @ the MM int airport, Lagos this morning 12th Jan on my way to UK for medicals yrs of my passport being withheld by the FHC Abuja.I hv just left the efcc office where snr officers in lagos& Abuja apologized to me for the error. OCCUPATIONAL HAZZARD abi?”
Earlier, the DSS, through its spokesman, Peter Ifunaya confirmed Okupe’s arrest saying: “Doyin Okupe was intercepted by the DSS at Terminal 1 of Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos this morning at the instance of the EFCC.
“He has long been handed over to the commission which requested for the action.
Okupe was billed to fly to London via Virgin Atlantic”, the statement signed by the Spokesman of DSS, Peter Afunanya, said.
