The Wife of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinunu; foremost presidential candidate in the country and revered national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Oluremi Tinubu, has through her Elderly Citizens Assistance Scheme (ECAS) organized free medical check-ups, Cash and clothing donations to hundreds of aged people.
The program being the 11th of its kind the former Lagos State governor will be organizing was held at Apapa Local Government.
Remi Tinubu; senator representing Lagos Central Senatorial District explained that the initiative was inspired by her “reverence” for senior citizens and the desire to do what would provide a safety net for as many people as possible.
She added that being able to impact the lives of senior citizens in Lagos Central Senatorial District means a lot to her.
Her words: “This impediment and my determination to do my bit for the elderly in our constituency gave birth to the ECAS. I just confess that in 2012, when we introduced the ECAS, I had no idea that it would be one of the most fulfilling initiatives that I have ever embarked upon.“Elderly care had always meant a great deal to me; elders provide guidance and share their wisdom with you younger ones. I think of the elderly citizens as repositories of knowledge; people who have served their country meritoriously and contributed a great deal to our development not just as a state but as a nation and therefore deserve all the support and care that they could possibly require.”
Chairman of Apapa Local Government, Idowu Senbanjo stated that Senator Tinubu had ensured that they gather annually to celebrate the older citizens for 11 years, in a bid to ensure that no segment of society is left out.
Senbanjo lauded the senator for the sustenance of the programme and implored all elderly citizens to always check their health regularly and visit the clinic with their card provided by Senator Tinubu under the Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA)’s Ilera Eko plan.
She called on Nigerians to ensure the collection of their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) and vote for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
She urged them to shun electoral violence and vote selling.
A beneficiary, Chief Chioma Ande, thanked Senator Tinubu and the council chief for the provision of medical check-ups and financial support, noting that this would enable them to enjoy the yuletide season.
