A Magistrate sitting in Otta, Ogun State has convicted and sentenced a man, Okoye Samuel Chukwuemeka to seven years in prison for parading himself as a lawyer.
The convict who, until his arrest on Saturday, September 15, 2022, by men of the Nigerian Police Force, Sango Division, impersonated one Chime Kingsley Ifeanyi a member of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Otta Branch, Ogun State and operated under the name CKI LEGAL.
Theliberationnews gathered that numerous incriminating documents including lawyer seals and filed documents were found in his home and office.
Delivering the judgment on Monday, Justice L.O Oke having found Chukwuemeka guilty of the six-count charges bordering impersonation sentenced him to seven years imprisonment with no option of fine with a restitution fee of N50,000 to be paid to the Nigerian Bar Association, Ota Branch.
Reacting to the sentence, The Chairman of the NBA, Otta Branch remarked that the branch will keep being at the forefront of cleansing the profession of quack and fake lawyers as he implored other branches to follow suit in building a reputable bar.
