Lagos’s success story as a state of preference and fastest-growing economies/cities on the continent and the world can not be best told without an emphatic referral to the highly insightful legislative backing it has been enjoying especially in the last couple of years under Obasa’s tutelage.

Since the day he put himself forward for legislative vocation in 2003 and his subsequent attainment of the speakership stool over a decade after, the state legislative assembly has, beyond reasonable doubt, been breaking grounds and steadily raising the bar of legislative engineering.

The man with the magical wand is Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, the eighth and incumbent speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly and the lawmaker representing Agege Constituency 1 in the hallowed chamber of Lagos assembly.

Born on this auspicious day in 1972, Rt. Hon. Obasa is a paragon of modesty, excellence and other virtues symptomatic of nobility and justness.

Upon attaining the speakership position in 2015, Obasa has shown an uncompromising commitment to raising the bar of progressive legislation in the state and the federation. His legislative acumen has seen Lagos Assembly perform beyond the “common standard of excellence’.

It’s quite fascinating to know that Obasa is the only speaker in the history of Lagos State House of Assembly to sponsor over six private member bills in his first four years as the foremost legislative leader in the federation; these laws include: The Neighborhood Watch Law, Anti-Kidnapping law, cancer institute law, Yoruba Language Preservation and Promotion law among others.

These laws have been instrumental to the state’s continued growth in all facets of governance – beginning with security, employment, health, education and so on.

Another fascinating achievement Obasa is the annual Stakeholders’ meeting that takes place simultaneously in all 40 constituencies of the state. The meeting provides an avenue for the constituents to meet with their representatives thereby solidifying their ties and making government more closer to the people.

It is worthy of mention that communique from these stakeholders’ meetings serves as one of the major elements of the state budget.

Obasa’s political ingenuity has helped sustain the harmonious relationship between the Legislative arm of government and other tiers, especially the executive arm.

These and many more have been the inspiring achievements of the Lagos State University Law graduate and Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria.

He has made a name for himself as a bridge builder, a cerebral and arguably one of the most experienced lawmakers in Lagos State since his foray into legislative activities in 1999 when he was elected as a Councillor representing Ward E in Agege Local Government between 1999 and 2002 before his election into the House of Assembly to represent Agege Constituency 1 since 2003.

On this auspicious day, we in Theliberationnews say 50 hearty cheers to a parliamentarian par excellence as he flips over the golden page.

Happy birthday, Mr. Speaker.
