Bishop Matthew Kukah, the revered priest of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto and a leading light in public discourse has cited poor leadership and dismal governance in the country as his only regret in life, so far.

Kukah, who celebrated his 70th birthday on Wednesday, spoke on an Arise TV programme, The Morning Show on Friday.

According to the respected catholic bishop,Nigerians are governed by leaders who have no passion and interest of moving the country forward.

He said, “I would have said I have no regret but the only regret I have outside and inside this country is to see how a nation with such incredible human being ruled by people who are lacking the passion and commitment to place this country where it ought to be.”

Speaking on his continued agitation for better governance, the revered bishop said: “My energy is from the streets of Nigeria, the ordinary people I see whether they are Christian or Muslim.

“I have with all sense of modesty, put in a little scholarship in my years of priesthood. Focusing on citizens and how we can change the lives of the people”.

It has been reported that the popular clergy who was in 2021, appointed by Holy Father Pope Francis, Head of Vatican city, as a member of the Dicastery for the Promotion of Human Integral Development, is known for constantly speaking to authority and power on the state of the nation.

Recall that the bishop, a few months ago, asked President Muhammadu Buhari to reveal the names of those sponsoring the Boko Haram insurgents that are wrecking havoc in several parts of the country. He further stated that President Mohammadu Buhari has done a poor job as the leader of the country, so far.
