The Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTWCH) in partnership with the National Coconut Producers Processors and Marketers Association of Nigeria (NACOPPMAN) has celebrated the year 2022 World Coconut Day.
The World Coconut Day is an annual event celebrated every September 2 across the globe by all operators in the coconut value chain industry.
This year’s celebration was held in tbe school at the College of Engineering Lecture Theatre.
The Ag Vice Chancellor, Dr. Oluremi Nurudeen Olaleye, represented by the Ag. Deputy VC (Administration), Dr. Kolawole Godonu, in his remarks stated that coconut remains a natural asset in Lagos State and Nigeria at large.
He said all hands must be on deck to make sure coconut survives, while explaining that the institution has planted over 1200 coconut trees with the decision to plant additional 800 coconut trees before the end of the year 2022.
The Chairman, NACCOPPMAN, Mr. Abdulsalam Abdulateef, appreciated the institution for the warm reception.
He sad the choice to partner with LASUSTECH to celebrate world coconut day was apt, noting that the institution which recently transmuted into a University has been at the forefront of promoting African culture.
The Association in appreciation of the University’s interest in coconut plantation donated 200 units of coconut seedlings to commence the collaboration
