Residents and stakeholders of Hope Estate, Ago-Okota have called on government across the state and local levels to support their developmental strides in the community.
According to the chairman of works committee, Hon. Chuka Uzodike, the community has so far spent over N50 million to put in place some major developmental projects in the community which includes construction of the main gate into the estate, construction of drainage channels, interlocking of major roads in the estate among others.
He explained that the residents were forced to provide the basic amenities for themselves due to lasting neglect the estate is experiencing from government.
Uzodike added that the residents have had to make series of financial contributions to the tune of N50 million to fund the projects with the likelihood of contributing similar amount to get the projects outrightly completed.
His words: “Executing projects of this nature has been hectic and demanding. The road construction is over a kilometer and we are more than half-way done. We ensured that it is of best standard with drainage channels. We had to make series of contribution before we could get such humongous amount of money.
“We are forced to undertake the project because government seems to have neglected us here and given the nature of our area we are always wary of rain here because when it rains, everywhere becomes an eyesore. ”
According to another residents, Mr. Chike Okwaranwa, contributing more for the projects hasn’t been easy but it is a sacrifice the community is making to make the estate more habitable.
However, the chairman of estate, Chief Lynus Okafor noted that the estate is still in dire need of government support to fast-track the development and take the burden off their neck when he called on state and local government for complementary efforts.
“It is important for me to begin by specially appreciating Chief Ebere Nwosu for singlehandedly undertaking the construction of the main road leading into the estate and also other residents for their continued corporation and financial commitment. I want to use this medium to call on government at the local and state levels to come to our aid here in this estate, residents here are patriotic and taxpaying members of the society and I don’t think we should be deprived of the dividends of democracy. We’ve undertaken various projects in the past to make life abundance for us. We humbly appeal to the governments to complement our efforts,” he said.
