Nyesom Wike, the Governor of Rivers State, has admitted to being a cog in the wheel of Femi Gbajabiamila’s aspiration to becoming the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
He made the confessional statement at the commissioning ceremony of the legislative quarters in Port Harcourt where he had invited the speaker to do the unveiling.
Wike made it known that, although Gbajabiamila went on to become the speaker of the green chamber but he had plotted against his aspiration.
He noted that he had invited Gbajabiamila to do the commissioning because of the crucial role he played in securing a monetary refund from the federal government even when he could have worked against to settle score with him.
His words, “Mr. Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, I didn’t invite you here as APC member (if that were the case I would have written to the chairman of APC), But I invited you here because you helped me get monetary refund from the federal government.
“I plotted against your aspiration to be the speaker. But you helped me get the money. That is why I invited you to come and see what I’ve done with the money,” he disclosed.
In reaction, Rt. Hon. Gbajabiamila described the situation as a twist of fate noting that as it is known that those Wike conspired with then were the ones that worked against him in the presidential primaries of his party, the People’s Democratic Party Party.
His words: “It’s not hidden that you plotted against me. It is the irony of life and indeed very interesting, the twist of fate that those with whom you sat together to plot against me (to stop me from being speaker), are the same people that sat and plotted against you in the (PDP) presidential primary,” he stated.
