The candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has been declared winner of the just-concluded governorship election in Osun State by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Adeleke was declared winner by the Returning Officer for the election and Vice Chairman of the University of Lagos, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe having polled 403,371 votes to defeat the candidate of the All Progressives Congress and incumbent governor, Adegboyega Oyetola who recorded 375,027 votes.
In the words of Ogundipe, “I declare Adeleke Ademola Jackson Nurudeen, on behalf of the chairman of INEC, of the PDP, having satisfied the requirement of the law, is hereby declared the winner and he is returned elected.”
As earlier reported by The Liberation News, the election was contested by 15 political parties but it ended being a two-horse race with the candidates of the two frontline parties sharing the majority of the votes from the 30 Local Government Areas (LGAs) amongst themselves.
As announced by INEC, Adeleke’s PDP won 17 of the 30 LGAs while APC recorded victory in just 13 states.
PDP recorded victory in Ejigbo, Irepodun, Ife North, Orolu, Oriade, Obokun, Ede North, Ede South, Irepodun, Boluwaduro, Egbedore, Odo Otin, Ila, Ilesa West, Osogbo, Atakunmose and Olorunda LGAs while APC, on the other hand, won in Ife East, Ife South, Irewole, Atakunmosa East, Isokan, Ayedaade, Iwo, Ifedayo, Ife Central, Ilesa East, Boripe, Ayedire and Olaoluwa.
