In the spirit of Sallah Celebration, Kano State Governor, Abdulahi Umar Ganduje has freed 90 inmates from Gorondutse Correctional Centre in the state.
The gesture, according to the governor, was in compliance President Muhammadu Buhari’s urge to decongest correctional centres across the country.
The exercise which was carried out through the State Prerogative of Mercy Committee during a visit to the conventional facility yesterday brought the number of inmates released by the governor in his seven years of governance to 3,898 across the state.
According to the governor; “This exercise is in compliance with President Muhammadu Buhari’s urge for decongestion of our correctional centres. We will continue with this good initiative. And at the same time, I assure you that the process will continue even after I left office.
“When my Deputy, Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, who is the gubernatorial candidate of our great party, APC, wins come 2023,” he disclosed.
Amidst commendation from the inmates who showered encomium on the governor for his unprecedented merciful disposition since he assumed office, the Controller of Kano Correctional Centres, Sulaiman M. Inuwa, applauded the Governor Ganduje, explaining that, indeed, the governor’s gesture was unprecedented, “In my 30 years of working experience, I have never come across a governor who did something close to this.”
