The presidential ambition of the foremost candidate in the country and National Leader of the All Progressives Congress Asijwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu received a boast as the chairman of Tangaza local government area of Sokoto state, Isa Salihu Kalenjeni, and six of his coucillors have joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Kalenjeni, a former political associate of Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, was his colleague at the lower chamber of the National Assembly.
The decampees were received into the main opposition fold in the state, by Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko and the Governorship candidate of APC, Ahmed Aliyu at Wamakko’s Gawon Nama residence on Saturday evening.
The councillors include, Zakariyya Madugu, Abubakar And bubakar Kalanjine, Abubakar Aliyu, Halilu Aliyu, Ibrahim Sarkin Tudu and Musa Sulaiman Sakkwai.
They were also joined by Abdullahi Garba and Jamilu Muhammad who were former councillors in the local government area.
Speaking with Journalist, Kalenjeni made it known that their decision was informed by failure to secure the ticket of their former party.
“The state chairman of PDP told us the Governor barred all serving local government chairman from contesting but two of my colleagues got tickets to contest for House of reps and the state House of assembly.
“The same thing happened to my councillors. They were denied tickets. The Governor promised to compensate them which he never did,” he alleged.
Kalenjeni, who was a three-term national assembly member had aspired for his party ticket to re-contest for House of Representatives but was asked to step down for somebody.
“But I cannot support the man who worked against me in 2019 when I was contesting for House of Representatives,” he said
However, the state chairman of PDP, Bello Goronyo denied knowledge of their defection.
“I am not aware that Kalenjeni and some councillors left our party because there is a procedure of leaving a party. They must formally inform us. So I cannot respond to speculation,” he said
